This is our first time working with Hanan Million and her team. This natural is deeply sweet like purple fruits and blueberries with a round body and pleasant florals that remind us of black tea.
In the cup
We taste sweet dried fig, fresh blueberries, and florals that remind us of black tea. This coffee has a medium body and a round finish.
About The Producer
Hanan produced this coffee alongside her mother, Asha, and approximately 150 outgrower partners and team members in Buku. Hanan founded ASHKIM, an Ethiopian exporting company, in 2020. She named the company after Asha and her sister, Kimiya. Today, they continue to operate the business as a family in Guji. Hanan is also a member of the Ethiopia Chapter of International Women’s Coffee Alliance.
Processing
The cherries are grown and produced by Hanan and her team of outgrowers. The fruit then ferments with the seeds still inside, taking on a raisin-like appearance as natural reactions increase their flavour potential. Once the cherries have reached 10-12% moisture content, the fruit is removed and the seeds are exported. The coffee is sorted for density and dried on traditional raised beds.
Variety
The Jimma Agricultural Research Centre (JARC), one of Ethiopia’s federal agricultural research centres, approved the release of 74158 in 1979. The variety originally came out of the Metu Bishari Selections taken from mother plants from the Metu woreda (district) of the Illuababora zone. 74158 was selected and propagated for its high yield potential and resistance to coffee berry disease.
