From SEPTEMBER

This is our first time featuring Colombian producer Daniel Ortega. We have worked with his family and local community of producers in the past, specifically Esnaider Ortega and producers from the La Muralla region and Monkaaba group. This washed Pink Bourbon has a very delicate and complex profile with a round body, presenting itself as a well-balanced cup reminding us of lemon tea, almond and white florals.

In the cup

We taste delicate lemon tea, a creamy sweetness reminiscent of almonds, and white florals in the finish. This coffee has a light and balanced body with a delicate finish.

About The Producer

Daniel Ortega is a lifelong coffee producer. He was one of the first in his area to dedicate his life to coffee production and is still producing fantastic lots at 72 years old. He began by producing Caturra, but found these coffee plants were suffering from leaf rust disease. He replanted his entire farm in 2018 with Pink Bourbon and Tabi.

Processing

The Pink Bourbon cherries are collected every fifteen days followed by a 24-hour cherry ferment. The next day, the cherries are de-pulped and then left to dry ferment without any mucilage for another 22 hours. The remaining parchment is rinsed and the coffee is dried on solar beds for approximately 15 days.

Variety

Pink Bourbon is a variety primarily grown in Huila. Though newer than other varietals, it has quickly grown in popularity for its bright, sweet, and aromatic profiles. It is now known to be an Ethiopian Landrace.
