From MEL
This coffee is produced at the Karmachi Farm—owned by Tracon—located in the Geisha area of the Bench Maji Zone in Ethiopia. The renowned Geisha specialty coffee variety is also said to have originated in this Bench Maji Zone (though this specific lot is not the Geisha variety). Coffee cherries harvested by approximately 500 local farming households are transported to Tracon’s processing mill, where they undergo the carbonic maceration process. Specifically, the processing involves placing the coffee cherries into sealed stainless steel tanks, injecting carbon dioxide, and allowing them to undergo anaerobic fermentation for 10 days. The producers are also engaged in programs aimed at social and regional development, including the construction of infrastructure such as schools, health centers, roads, and bridges.
