From Friedhats
Each year Osito holds the Copa De Oro- a cupping competition with the most outstanding lots from their most reliable producers across different regions of Colombia. Each entrant is paid a premium for their entry, knowing that producing reliably great coffees takes a great amount of time and care, which is an unaffordable luxury to those scraping to make ends meet. Basically, entrants are given a promised price for their lot, with the premium increasing depending on how high they are ranked in regional competition, and again for the grand prize winner across all regions. This is Osito’s counterapproach to the auction model, which can often see a polarizing 3rd place coffee obtain a higher premium than the 1st place winner, keeping rewards clear and guaranteeing premiums all around to incentivize and facilitate the growth of high-end specialty coffee. This fantastic washed gesha was Emiliano’s entrance in the Copa de Oro, which took 2nd place in the Western Division.
