From NOMAD
Elderflower, honey, and loquat come together in a delicate and fragrant cup, where subtle notes of dried apricot also emerge. Its balanced acidity and silky body provide structure and elegance, resulting in a sweet, floral, and lingering espresso that reflects the care and dedication behind its creation.
This lot is a result of Gasharu Coffee’s commitment to recognizing the work of women throughout the coffee value chain. Women’s Crown – Rugori is a project entirely led by women—from harvesting to processing—and it pays tribute to the “Urugori,” a symbolic crown in Rwandan culture awarded to women after their first childbirth as a sign of respect and honor.
Over 70% of Gasharu Coffee’s staff are women, and this coffee aims to ensure their work is valued fairly by directing greater economic benefits directly to them. It’s a step toward equity that positively impacts nutrition, girls’ education, and the sustainability of entire communities.
Process
Once harvested, the cherries are floated in water tanks and depulped using a McKinnon machine before undergoing 12–14 hours of dry fermentation. They are then density-sorted in washing channels, separating three quality grades. Grade A is fermented a second time for 8 hours, pre-dried on special tables, and then transferred to raised African beds for drying over 16 to 20 days.
This lot is made up exclusively of Grade A coffee, dried, selected, and prepared for export by a highly experienced team of women.
