This is one of those coffees that you’re so excited to roast, cup, taste, and take home for yourself that it’s almost a bummer to sell it. The only consolation is knowing that all of you are getting to drink one of your favorite coffees too.
What’s there left to say about the CGLE Sudan Rume that hasn’t already been said? For a coffee that more than speaks for itself it’s hard to put pen to paper (or fingers to keys I guess?) but let’s take a crack at it.
Sudan Rume is a rare variety that’s difficult to grow- it’s a landrace Ethiopian varietal that was brought to Las Margaritas to experiment with because of it’s potential cup profile. For the experts at the Las Margaritas farm, they’ve found there’s only one specific portion of the farm that it grows well in, hence the limited supply for such a beloved coffee.
Sasa Sestic became the World Barista Champion using Sudan Rume, and Lex nearly did the same (except for the 12 people between him and first place at World Brewers Cup). Despite that brutal and stinging loss that he still brings up daily, this coffee has remained his favorite, along with many of us here at Friedhats.
To me the cup is an uncanny mint chocolate chip milkshake with a cherry on top, to others there is a distinctive eucalyptus and raspberry. It’s herbal and clean with a great brightness, there’s nothing else quite like it, but most of all- it’s delicious, and we hope you’ll love it as much as we all do.
