From Friedhats
Bookkisa is the name of the village in the Guji region where this coffee is grown at an altitude of around 2000 masl. Like with most coffees from Ethiopia it’s a collection of the harvests from smallholders in the area. In this case 33 smallholders that each work on only a few hectares of land.
Ture Waji is the man that manages Sookoo, the producer and exporter of the coffee. Without a company like Sookoo, the farmers would have a hard time managing everything on their own. Think of financing, processing, education, infrastructure and quality control.
Ture Waji has been doing a good job, because the quality of Bookkisa has been consistently good.
Ok cool, but what does it taste like?
There’s still nothing like the taste of a good Ethiopian coffee, no matter how it’s processed. We’re tasting exotic geshas from Panama where we write down “tastes like Ethiopia”. This coffee from Bookkisa has some clean earl grey and star fruit notes but also slightly more funky ones like raisin chocolate and strawberry. It’s very creamy and sweet and has a bright acidity.
