From KAWA
A sweet and subtle coffee, drawing notes of grapefruit, rooibos and peach in the cups.
AASH PLC Washing Station
Testi Specialty Coffee purchased the AASH PLC washing station in 2019 and began working with local growers to produce specialty coffees at the station.
Some 750 local smallholders deliver to the resort, their farms located at high altitudes, around or above 1,900 meters. Grown in Harrar, their coffee takes on the fruity, vinous character so dear to Harrar coffees, and uses Grade 1 processing to create a unique, flavorful coffee.
Farmers in this region have been growing coffee for generations. They are true specialists. Cultivation methods in Harrar remain largely traditional. Harrar farmers generally grow their coffee plants alongside other food crops. This method is common among smallholders, as it maximizes land use and provides food for their families.
In addition to traditional intercropping, most farms are also organic by default. Harrar farmers generally use very little - if any - fertilizers or pesticides. Most farm work is done by hand, and very few tasks are mechanized, even during processing.
