From KAWA
A coffee with a very nice complexity and notes of green tea, jasmine and guava with a finish reminiscent of cane sugar.
Franco Huaches Montalvan
The Huaches Zurita family has owned the La Lucuma farm since 1984. Initially, they owned 2 hectares, and in 2005, the area was expanded to 6.5 hectares. Since the beginning of coffee cultivation on the farm, a strong interest in the production of specialty coffee has developed, with the cultivation of varieties such as caturra, typica… due to the altitude of the farm.
In 2016, seeds of the Gesha variety were therefore acquired with the motivation to experiment with new flavor profiles and compete to produce the best coffees in the country. In 2017, 0.5 hectares of the variety were planted on the farm. The beginnings were complex due to the differences in the management of this variety compared to previous crops, but with proper advice, a lot of patience and work, the first harvest was obtained in 2020, with a very satisfactory result in the cup. In 2021, the farm won third place in the first division of the Cajamarca regional competition. In 2022, in the last competition, the farm obtained second place, exceeding 91 points in the cup. All these successes motivated the family to participate in the prestigious national competition La Taza de Excelencia in 2023, in order to compete for the title of the best coffee in Peru.
