From Friedhats
High up in the Panamanian mountains was a man named Carlos Franceschi, who had it all: Surrounded by a beautiful lush green environment with the most stunning sunsets, Carlos had an awesome visionary grandfather who founded Carmen Estate, which turned into a famous coffee farm growing the even more famous gesha variety.
So far so good, Carlos was drinking gesha every day, watching the equally stunning sunrises. He was also producing really great coffee, year after year, doing a fantastic job.
And then he went and sold his farm to one of the biggest retailers in China…
Tough times.
But who are we kidding, we still buy their coffee. It’s just too good to pass up.
Carlos left Carmen Estate but, together with Jean Paul Langenstein, still owns some small lots in Volcán where they only grow gesha and also buy some gesha cherries from smaller farmers in the area. They process it under “Franceschi Coffee”, so that is what you’re drinking here.
Right, so what does it taste like?
It’s bright, fresh and clean, like you would expect from a washed gesha. But the anaerobic fermentation gives it a little bit more of the punchy fruit notes. Just a touch, but enough to put a smile on your face. Look for notes of orange blossom, purple fruits and clementine cream.
