In addition, the area is rich in volcanic soil, which gives the wine a mineral feel and a rich, full-bodied flavor. While distribution in Planadas was previously limited due to security concerns, since 2015 its specialty reputation has skyrocketed, and Tolima has consistently produced lots that have won COE (Cup of Excellence) awards and scored highly in recent years.
