Fast forward and a whole region has been transformed, with neighbours collaborating and following the best possible farming practices.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eNamed after the Brazilian Roadrunner which is native to the area, Ivan and Roses Sitio Seriema farm is a model of modern, responsible coffee production. We first tasted coffees from the family in 2014 and they have helped change our perception of Brazilian coffees. Everything they do is documented, and considerable resources are invested both in new equipment and planting of new coffee varieties.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMarysabels father Don Fabio operates coffee farms around Marcala. After many years of poor profits, he decided to hand out land to his daughter Marysabel and her husband Moises Herrera. Moises brought his own farms into the family business and together they have almost 200 hectares of coffee split across various fincas. The Caballeros are committed to the environmental sustainability of their farms. A lot of their focus goes towards improving the soil of their farms to ensure a healthy environment. They produce organic fertiliser made from cow and chicken manure mixed with pulp from coffee cherries and other organic material. This is used in addition to some mineral fertiliser to ensure that the coffee plants get the nutrients they need. Around 50 farmers contribute their cherries to the station, produced on the surrounding land at elevations up to 2350m. Named for the Wate river which flows alongside, Bishan Wate is one of twenty washing stations owned and managed by Testi Coffee, a family business founded by Faysel Adham Yonis. Coffee cherries are collected from 476 small producers, who work the land around the village of Chelbesa. From Kirinyaga, Kamwangi AB is sweet and aromatic.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis AB has superb clarity, with bright notes of red currant and plum in the cup. The sweetness is gently syrupy, like raisin or candied orange. As it cools, rose hip shows a touch of herbal elegance.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis coffee has been processed at the Kamwangi Factory, belonging to the New Ngariama Cooperative Society in Kirinyaga, Central Kenya. Among the three wet mills under the cooperative, Kamwangi is one. It serves approximately 1800 farmers, although not all are currently active. These farmers primarily grow SL 34 (90%), along with SL28, K7, and Ruiru 11 varieties, at altitudes ranging from 1500 to 1800 metres above sea level. The factory is closest to the town of Embu.\u0026amp;nbsp;\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eProcessing is done with Fresh River Water.
